Here we go with day ten of my writing prompt series, where I suggest a scenario (often with a bit of scifi or fantasy flavor) and anyone who sees it is free to brainstorm around it and write a scene or story.
Prompt #10: a game interrupted Fiction often utilizes game-playing as a way to vary things up. In-story contests allows a miniature set of stakes to take place with whatever silly rules the author wants to utilize. Whether it be a sport that a society takes too seriously, or the whims of an ancient mischievous entity, there’s always a way to make the results feel important.
The challenge here is to write a scene or story where a very important game is interrupted by something dangerous or significant, but the players decide to continue anyway, be it through stubbornness or determination. Maybe it’s a pair of boxers continuing the fight even as a flood breaks in and surrounds the ring. Maybe it’s someone trying to finish their board game with death while the complications of their illness set in. Whatever happens, the game must go on.
Good luck and, as always, feel free to comment or discuss the prompt or offer direction to a story it inspired.
