Paper                                                          Iron                                                        Wood

The storm made quick work of the cliff side, speeding what should have been more than a hundred years of weathering. The rock fell away, revealing the iron plate beneath. It had no visible hatches or doorways. There were no words or pictograms. It was almost like it was natural, simply a collection of all the most like-minded iron atoms in the world. Continue reading

Death Combat                              Slime Culture                              Expiration Date

The palace wibbled and wobbled as the thousand guests rolled and slithered into the exhibition hall. It used to be the ballroom until the slimedom collectively realized they could not dance, at least not by the standards of the solid beings in the neighboring lands. Continue reading

One Song                                              Five Films                                         Ten Books

One rarely wonders what exactly constitutes a deserted island. How deserted does it have to be? Free of people? Free of their buildings? Free of animals? Free of plants? Only a handful of them, true to the last grain in being deserted, have ever existed. This is the tale of the one off the coast of Nova Scotia. It was shaped like a femur and covered in white sand. For the longest time, there was nothing else. Not a feather. Not a sea shell. Continue reading

Burger Taste Test                   Ramen Taste Test                     Pancake Taste Test

The room was small and sparsely decorated, but even without many objects to hold onto the smell of pancakes and syrup was thick in the air. It was almost as if the scent was pumped in through the vents from an industrial-sized vat. There were enough people in there to add an element of body odor, but Ms. Mapple had the ability to weed that out in her decision making. Continue reading

Chunky Garden Jellies                  Serpentipedes                        Giggling Gourds

The greenhouse was always quiet, so it was the perfect place to experiment. Since the castle grounds had been corrupted and usurped, all sorts of venomous little things had emerged from the garden soil, making their nests in the giggling gourds that would’ve been the food of the people just a week prior. Continue reading

Straight Razors                        Boxing Gloves                      Novelty Finger Traps

There was one spot designated as the place for fights. They didn’t used to need such a thing. Fights were for the other creatures of the forest: those with tusks and claws. They were a species of hands. That was how Een always thought of himself anyway. Sometimes he would watch the humans stare at their reflections in the surface of the lake. They always looked at their eyes, as if their own heads held secrets they weren’t aware of. Continue reading

Tusked Hog Mask             Slobbering Mantis Mask              Shark-Hound Mask

For five days my body has not been my own. I don’t suspect it will ever be returned to me. Every human has a natural instinct to avoid housekeeping. I was very good at avoiding it, especially since I lived alone in a house I inherited from my parents. The living area was sanitary enough, with no visible layers of dust as long as you didn’t check between the cupboards or under the couch. Continue reading
