Seedy POV                          Spoiled Rotten POV                               Sky Writer POV

It was the autumn. My sixteenth birthday approached rapidly on the horizon. As the daughter of one of the wealthiest families in all of the town of Tinstar, my party was to be quite the event. Not only would it certainly get written up in the local paper’s society and culture section, but my birthday, as it did every year, fell upon the night prior to Halloween. Continue reading

Wade in Plastic                       Wade in Fish                               Wade in Junk Food

The twins were named shortly after their birth, but their parents never gave them anything else, abandoning them right after. The names never took. The children were left with swaddling cloths, each of a different color. The boy was Green; the girl was purple. That was how they came to know each other as they grew and realized they lived in one of society’s largest trash bags. The most they could ever hope to do was claw their way up the side until it became too slippery. Continue reading

They surfaced ten nautical miles out from the summit for their checkpoint. They could’ve gone right under, with all the civilian subs, but there was decorum to consider. Every bit would help, considering the condition of their own vessel. Continue reading

GROSSIUS

Noodle Ration                                Film Ration                                     Game Ration

The ration arrived by drone, dropped in an unlabeled box upon their doorstep. There was a cat door, just wide enough for their arms to fit through, grab the box, and pull the ration inside. Once Jetty had it he slowly walked it away from the dark entrance and into the planetarium. They had a small portable stove set up in there so they could eat under the dim glow of all the fake stars. Blizzard                                                Tsunami                                               Tornado

Jessica was just joking. She wanted to walk up to the water, dip her toes in it, and pretend that she was afraid to go deeper. She had five friends already out in the swells, jumping on each other and spitting wildly whenever they got dunked. She wanted them to look at her, to wave her in, to just give her a moment of attention. Continue reading

Missing Water                            Missing Timber                               Missing Silver

It was a small pious town on the edge of truly brutal territory. One mile further west and it wouldn’t have stood a chance. They had to stay right where they were; if they’d gone any further they never could’ve accessed the river and dug their own channels and wells. The biggest building by far was the church, though they didn’t make a show of it. There was no stained glass and there was no cross atop it. Though they worshiped Jesus there, all were welcome and all were blessed under their roof. Continue reading

The cloud bank passed overhead just as a flock of small skates flapped by beneath their boat. Their movement was perfectly matched, as if the fish used the clouds as roaming shade. Lucas and Beryl sat on opposite sides of the boat, preparing their equipment for the dive ahead. They were already clad in skintight neoprene suits with a colorful stripe down the side. Lucas was Green. Beryl was purple. Continue reading

Curious Letter                        Affectionate Letter                              Coded Letter

Little Vince marched through the snow towards their postbox. His mother had scolded him on his way out the door for braving the driving snow and wind. The postman wouldn’t come for three days yet, that was true, but the letter practically burned his hands. He didn’t need a coat, or a scarf, or even mittens because it was so warm. It was the best letter he’d ever written for his friend and he couldn’t bare to hold onto it. If he did, he might decide something needed changed. Continue reading

Scientifically Enhanced Fruit         Poetic Device Fruit           Enchanted Fruit

The Concord grape before them was certainly the largest to ever exist. Its skin was thick enough to require a fillet knife. Its seeds were large enough to serve as baseballs. Five bottles of wine could be produced from the juice of a solitary example from the vine. The vine itself was full, more than thirty grapes growing over a titanium trellis, because the other materials they’d used had ended up buckling under the weight. Continue reading
