Minesweeper Fiction: Session 7

Author’s Note: This was written live on stream, with the tone being determined by the numbers under minesweeper tiles.  The audience could bid tokens earned in stream to reveal random tiles.  A mine hit results in the death of all characters, unless they are temporarily saved by a lump sum of tokens.  If characters make it to the end of the stream, they survive to be seen another day.  Join us at twitch.tv/blainearcade if you wish to participate.

A world lies in ruin, its debris drifting on a bottomless sea. Its remaining people, from all places and periods, have one chance of survival. One world will take them, but they must make the journey on their own. Between the two lies the minefield: a vast varied expanse of debris both magical and scientific. Salvation is on the other side.

Twitch Stream Story: Seduction of the Peaches

Prompt: sentient temptress peaches

A troublemaker appeared in the night, their favorite time, and brought only one possession. Alas, it was a thing that hated being possessed, that tried with all its might to escape and spread. The troublemaker had other things on their mind. They didn’t care if the village they passed through suffered, so they shook their grasping possession off their hand and left it upon the fertile soil. Continue reading

Twitch Stream Story: One Thousand Days of Orbit

Prompt: What will we see under the clouds of Jupiter’s red spot? It’s been dwindling over the last thousand years…

The man’s skin was red like clay, yet his beard was free of grime. He came with an incredible storm, always walking at its edge, never outpacing it. The storm was just as red, but not so stoic. It flung boulders everywhere, uprooted the oldest of trees, and turned whole villages into shreds and straw. When anyone got close enough to address him, before the storm inevitably killed them, they asked his name. He had none to offer, only a title: the Red Soul. Continue reading

Twitch Stream Story: Stalagmites

Prompt: A super villain tries to educate her incompetent goons on the basics of villainy.

The Rain of Hatred was a truly ancient event. Any of the books that survived it had scorched covers at the very least. Whatever cruel god had passed over the world, sobbing into his hands, was long gone. Everyone thought the red hot drops of hatred that had fallen were gone as well, absorbed and neutralized by the Earth. Continue reading

Twitch Stream Story: Inoculations

Prompt: A 30-something man, a disappointment to his father, has just graduated nursing school. He goes to meet his father at his golf club to give him the good news.

Simon rolled up his sleeve and checked the injection site: purple and swollen. It was splotchy too. He didn’t suffer those side effects last time. He stopped just outside the golf course’s black iron gates and took a deep breath. It hurt, but it didn’t matter. This was the last round of his treatment. Continue reading

You want that one?” the vendor asked with a scowl on his unevenly-shaved lips. He stared at the old man with the wispy hair and the halo of freckles. His aged customer held the cowrie shell up to his ear and held a finger out with his other hand, telling the vendor to be quiet for a moment. Continue reading
