Twitch Stream Story: Venom or Drown

Prompt: A woman with thalassophobia is trapped in the ocean with a large aquatic animal.

The exact shape of the vehicle, or the specific nature of their foe, she never saw. All Veronica knew was that she’d been captured, along with hundreds if not thousands of other people, by strange machines, and forced into a small box. At the moment her box was suspended upside down in a row of others, hanging out of the open bay of some flying vehicle. Continue reading

Twitch Stream Story: The Impenetrable

Prompt: A guy with ultimate power tries to live an ordinary life.

The parade simply got in the way. Gene thought there was no way anyone would attack him there, in the midst of countless innocent people. The villains that arrived at the front of the parade weren’t worried about civilian casualties though; their weapon was the most precise on the planet if they wanted it to be: a new infusium laser. Minesweeper Fiction: Session 7

Author’s Note: This was written live on stream, with the tone being determined by the numbers under minesweeper tiles.  The audience could bid tokens earned in stream to reveal random tiles.  A mine hit results in the death of all characters, unless they are temporarily saved by a lump sum of tokens.  If characters make it to the end of the stream, they survive to be seen another day.  Join us at twitch.tv/blainearcade if you wish to participate.

1-peace    2-alert    3-escalation    4-action    5-tragedy    6-world-changing

A world lies in ruin, its debris drifting on a bottomless sea. Its remaining people, from all places and periods, have one chance of survival. One world will take them, but they must make the journey on their own. Between the two lies the minefield: a vast varied expanse of debris both magical and scientific. Salvation is on the other side.

Three figures emerge from the fog of their sputtering world: Jules the pregnant draft dodger, Bitbeard the cryptocurrency pirate, and Dishokk the deposed white tiger beast. They see the minefield before them, knowing little, and walk forward. Continue reading

The leisure dome had rarely seen such a glut of important individuals. Typically their customers were families overburdened by small children, but tourism was booming on the entire station, so the ambassadors had few choices when it came to renting a venue. Continue reading

Twitch Stream Story: The Matchmaker

Prompt: Someone works on a space ship monitoring the ship’s heartbeat with a pair of headphones, but one day the headphones break.

The beat had been completely regular for more than a month. That was a month by the computer’s calculation of course, as none of the crew could keep track with so many stars and planets whizzing by. They were in for the long haul, one arm of the galaxy to the next, and any unscheduled stops could cost their employer trillions. Continue reading

Twitch Stream story: The Cougars have the Word

Prompt: Two cougar pilots argue over the pronunciation of an alien word that could prevent the self-destruction of an ancient abandoned alien craft.

There were many titles that could’ve gone in front of her name. Major. Pilot. To some, savior. At the moment she was too full of venom to embody any of them. She was just Paula Babcock: a shouting woman with wild bedhead throwing things down the corridors of the space-faring vessel she commanded. Continue reading

Twitch Stream Story: The Cage Opens

Prompt: Telepathic aliens kidnap a sample group of humans for a zoo, though some aliens object to their treatment.

They couldn’t read any of the signs. They didn’t even know they were signs. All the imprisoned humans saw were light green bars surrounding their transparent enclosure. They were blank, just like most of the walls. The only details they were allowed to see were each other’s faces and the bits of vegetation their captors had brought from Earth to make them feel more comfortable. Continue reading
